Galaxy Note Phones

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy A16 phone. This was to replace an old ZTE phone that gave me a LOT of problems trying to text. It would always seem to switch over to "RCS" mode, and my friends could not receive the info of the text right away. Sometimes, it took a day before I got a reply! So, after MUCH frustration, (the phone was cheap and years old)) I decided to get this Galaxy A16 from eBay for a great deal, It was new and "unlocked" so I had no trouble switching my sim card to and notifying my carrier, (consumer cellular) and registering it.

Now, this phone is doing the SAME thing! It goes into "RCS" mode and I have trouble with texting and my friends complain that they have to have their "data" on to get the text, if at ALL!!

There is NO setting in the phone that says ANYTHING about RCS mode! What is this and what can I do to stop it? I would GREATLY appreciate it if anyone can give me some suggestions on what to do!

Thanks. Tom

You still are not required to use Google messages. There are other apps out there, some potentially with ads. There is nothing wring with Google messages, but there is still no mandate to use it if you don't want to.

@tlight The phone itself has no RCS settings. The RCS settings will be in a RCS compatible SMS app, like Google Messages.

It is possible that RCS is enabled on your account by the carrier and, by not using a RCS capable app, you are missing messages.

Since you have had this issue with 2 phones. It is also possible that your texting problems have absolutely nothing to do with your phone and is caused by configuration of your account at your carrier's back office.

Hello Samsung Community,

First, thank all of you for being here and continuing to engage with and assist one another.

I would like to take just a moment and hopefully clarify some information regarding the ending of Samsung Messages. While it is true that on July 6th, the Samsung Messages App was discontinued and the default would be moving to Google Messages, there is no mandate or stipulation that indicates Google Messages MUST be the texting/messaging app that you must choose. This transition presents the opportunity for you to research any of the messaging applications available and choose the one that best fits your needs. If you are interested in the RCS feature, Google Messages may be your better option, but again, you DO NOT have to choose Google Messages, if you are opposed to the platform.

I hope this helps clear up any confusion.

Thanks for always helping one another and for being the best part of Samsung.

The Galaxy A16 sounds like a nice upgrade, especially after dealing with those RCS issues on the older ZTE. An unlocked phone is also convenient when switching or keeping the same carrier.
